Corporate Responsibility

EnvironmenTAL IMPACT

Operating responsibly involves taking steps to minimize the environmental impact of our operations, from discovery through to decommissioning. Consideration for land conditions, atmosphere, biology, and coastal marine and ecological preservation are included in our corporate responsibility program.

The upstream and midstream components of the Mtwara Energy Project in Tanzania are located within the Mnazi Bay – Rovuma Estuary Marine Park, an internationally recognized environmental preserve. To develop a natural gas field in such an important and sensitive area is a demanding challenge and requires continuous commitment from Artumas to ensure a minimal environmental and social footprint. Artumas employs a Community Development Manager to carry out social assessments, integrated with environmental assessments, which together form environmental and social impact assessments of the effects of Artumas’s presence.

The environment programme includes:

  • environmental management procedures covering the construction, operations and decommissioning phases;
  • personnel and community awareness and activities; and
  • community monitoring measures.
